Drawing has always been my favorite thing to do. Like many, I’ve had my share of detours and it took me a while to come to the conclusion that we should all do what makes our heart sing – for me, that’s making art. Not only do I love to draw, but I passionately believe that everyone can learn to draw. It’s not a magical gift to a select few. There are basic skills that can be applied in the same way one learns to play the piano or to drive a car. Follow instructions, practice, and drawings are guaranteed to result.
In case your curious, here are a few historical facts about me: I had no art instruction until I majored in Studio Art at Principia College. Following college I immediately began exhibiting my watercolors in galleries and exhibitions. In fact I became a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society before I was 25. For a while, life got in the way and there were only brief snippets of time to draw and paint. Then one day I realized I could make some choices. I started drawing and painting, eventually exhibiting and teaching art again. Hallelujah! So much bliss, I had to share. To see more of my work, I invite you to visit my website, paulaensignart.com.
Teaching has been a wonderful way to share my love of drawing. I teach both at Bainbridge Island Parks Dept. and at my studio/home. Class subjects include Sketchbook Journaling, Perspective, Portraiture, Composition, as well as Ink and Watercolor.
