Out and About

Summer is such a great time to get out and sketch. I’ve had several short trips in the area plus every Tuesday our local sketching group gets together to draw around the island.   I thought you might like to see what I’ve been up to.

And from an all too short trip to Port Townsend –  I ‘m captivated by the marvelous details of the Victorian buildings.

I had some fun with color on this boat drawing from the Port Townsend marina.

Next week I’m heading off to the Olympic Peninsula to participate in Paint the Peninsula, a plein air painting competition based in Port Angeles, Washington.  I’m excited about this. It’s a juried group of 22 exceptional artists from the United States and Canada and I’m thrilled to be a part of them.   And, I’m going to be drawing.  I don’t know if any drawing artist has ever been accepted into a plein air painting competition, so these may be ground-breaking works I’m about to do.  Each day for five days we bring our work into Port Angeles Fine Arts Center to add to a growing exhibition.  My goal is to do two masterpieces a day that represent the variety and beauty of the landscape.  Hopefully I’ll have time to do a blog post next week and show you some samples. Stay tuned!

    1. Thank you! My group meets on Bainbridge Island on Tuesdays from 10 to 12. I’m happy to add you to the mailing that provides weekly information if you let me know when you’ll be here. But a closer group would be “We’re Sketching in Kitsap.” They draw from Silverdale to Kingston and I believe you can find them on Facebook. If not, let me know and I’ll forward your email to one of their members. Hope you enjoy sketching while you’re here.

  1. Sorry I missed your show last week! I fell victim to “island time,” and the day was over before I knew it! But I had a great time sketching on Bainbridge, and USk has vowed to return! Might become an annual summer thing! 🙂 Have fun at the plein air event — what an honor to be included! Go break some ground, girl! 😉

  2. Is there a time frame where the paintings can be viewed at the Fine Arts Center? I live nearby and don’t want to miss seeing these. thanks. Love your work and how you share with others.

    1. Thanks for asking for details. I think the fine arts center is open from 9 am to 8 pm each day this week. Artists are bringing in work each day so theres already a wonderful exhibit up.
The final exhibit will be Saturday and Sunday until 2 pm. All of the work completed will also be available to view – maybe purchase – online at the Paint the Peninsula website. Hope you get a chance to go.
