One of the first challenges to the new sketcher is how to put a subject on a piece of paper. Whether you’re drawing something enormous or minuscule, it needs to look like it belongs on your paper. It’s all too easy to start drawing in the middle of the page and soon find that you’re drawing off the page. How to avoid that? I’ll show you. First I set up a little still life on the window ledge.
Watch the video to see how I went about placing it on the page.
By starting with a basic shape and putting light marks where the tallest, widest, lowest points are, you will have a reference for keeping your drawing within the page. Give it a try and see how it works for you.
